We are a community based social enterprise that seeks to empower women from marginalized areas around the Lake Victoria region through climate smart and sustainable livelihoods.

WISE

Project areas : Lake Victoria wetlands & Island villages. Currently in Dunga, Yala, Kusa, Koguta wetland villages. Mageta Island.

Mission

To work with women of underprivileged backgrounds in the rural and per-urban areas through locally driven and environment friendly enterprises hence sustainable families and communities.

Vision

To be a leading platform socio-economic empowerment of women from underprivileged backgrounds in the region.

Whether it’s sitting down making a quilt, in a kitchen preparing a meal, in a club reading the same book, or around the table playing cards, or planning a birthday party, when women come together with a collective intention, magic happens.

WHAT WE DO (THEMATIC AREAS)

Agribusiness

We initiate women-led agribusiness enterprises such as fish farming, poultry projects, organic farming, bee keeping, etc.

Green Energy

Smokeless Homes project; We provide solar lamps and improved cook stoves to households on a rent-to-own model through a mobile money Pay-as-go platform.

Health & Nutrition

We undertake promote access to clean and safe water and sanitation products and services through education on maternal health care, sexual reproductive health & menstrual hygiene.

Ecotourism

We engage women along the L. Victoria beaches in ecotourism activities as an alternative livelihood (i.e. tour guiding, cultural dance performances and provide trainings on value addition for gift shop craft products).

ICT for Women Development

We recognize ICT as an imperative tool for development in the 21st century and therefore women regardless of their backgrounds should not be limited to accessing basic ICT skills needed for survival in business, communication and networking among others.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

1. To contribute towards poverty eradication through climate smart enterprises led by women in the rural and peri-urban areas of Lake Victoria region.

2. To undertake demand driven research contributing to the development women entrepreneurship in marginalized areas.

3. To undertake capacity building trainings on entrepreneurship development, and provide mentoring, coaching and business incubation services among women entrepreneurs.

4. To promote good health among women through education on sexual reproductive health, family hygiene, nutrition, among others.

5. To enhance partnerships with the public and private sectors for the development of entrepreneurship among underprivileged women in the region.

OUR IMPACT

Improved Disposable Income

Through access to solar lamps and clean cookstoves, rural households especially the female headed homes have improved their savings up to 50% from no longer buying kerosene and fuelwood daily. Local women groups are also generating income from the solar charging stations.

Improved Sanitation for Girls and Women

Girls in the rural schools are able to maintain regular classes attendance due to improved level of confidence during menstruation. The local women groups generate income from the production of reusable sanitary towels and soap making.
